Uncategorized How I Went from a Math Nerd to a Designer Who Creates for People
THE DYNAMO PAD

I was that kid who loved math and spent hours sketching—until I realized design could be both.

As a child, I found comfort in order. Numbers made sense. Equations had elegance. I was, for all intents and purposes, a math nerd—someone who saw the world through structure, patterns, and problem-solving.

But I also spent hours sketching. Not just objects or buildings—but people, corners of rooms, the way light hit a window. It was instinctive. A quiet curiosity that never needed explanation.

For a long time, I thought I had to choose—left brain or right brain. Logic or creativity. But then I discovered architecture.

And suddenly, I didn’t have to choose at all.

Architecture became the bridge. It gave form to my love of structure and purpose to my imagination. It taught me that math could be emotional, and art could be rational. And most importantly, it showed me that design wasn’t about aesthetics—it was about people.

Over the years, what began as a fascination with geometry and lines evolved into a life of listening. Of understanding how people live, love, gather, grow—and translating those stories into space. I moved from grids and ratios to rhythms and rituals. From blueprints to belonging.

Design, for me, is still rooted in precision. But it’s the human layer that gives it meaning.

Today, at J.J. Poonawala, that balance continues to guide everything we do. We honour structure. We celebrate intuition. And above all, we design for people—not for applause.
